2006 has been another successful year for our work on peregrine falcons. Building on previous work, and in cooperation with Scottish Raptor Study Groups (Click on their logo below to visit their website) we are gathering detailed information on peregrine dispersal, longevity, individual life-time productivity and site fidelity.
Although not all data are in (because some of our co-operators are taking a long-needed break after the field season), we have now managed to place no less than 322 pit rings on peregrines in the last four years. This effort is now gaining traction as in this year over 10 falcons were captured electronically using the pit rings.
Later in the year we will update this information and we aim to build on this effort in 2007, cooperating with more ringers, donating more pit ring readers to the raptor study groups, and covering a wider geographical area.
Click here to see how we are using PIT rings to study goshawk, too!
