Ecological Consultancy Company Ecological Research Charity
Natural Research Ltd is a wildlife research charity registered in Scotland (SC 030363) whose mission is to support and conduct high-quality, objective research in order to better understand ecological processes and to underpin the conservation and wise management of wildlife resources.
Our researchers are highly regarded by their peers as they have a strong foundation in practical and academic research and publication. Our team is small but dynamic and we have expertise in field and lab based wildlife research, especially with rare and dispersed bird species. Natural Research is governed by a board of directors, and adheres to the laws governing charities in Scotland.
Our high quality national and international research is achieved by undertaking original research, sometimes in collaboration with partners or by funding other researchers. Our main area of expertise is avian ecology and biology, although we are also involved in studies on other taxa, both in the UK and overseas. We use a variety of techniques on our projects, including surveying, ringing, VHF – radio tracking, PIT tags, GPS satellite tracking and molecular DNA profiling. We always aim to produce peer-reviewed publications from our work so that our results can be widely accessible to other researchers and wildlife managers, though we recognise that other products of our research are also important. Natural Research is based and registered in Scotland, although we undertake research in many different countries, including Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, England, Georgia, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Madagascar, Northern Ireland, Norway, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Ireland, Russia, Spain, South Africa and Wales. Our main support comes from NRP Ltd (Company number: SC213640), which is a subsidiary of Natural Research that shares its mission but conducts commercial research. Profits from NRP are passed to Natural Research to fund independent non-commercial research on a variety of topics. We also partner with other NGOs, conservation agencies, academics and government departments providing financial and in-kind support to projects. We seek funds from private and public sources, and in accordance with law our accounts are lodged annually with Companies House (www.companieshouse.gov.uk). Click here to see a list of our partners.
