Dan Beadle
Field Ornithologist
Dan joined NRP as a Field Ornithologist in July 2024.
Dan is involved in conducting generic and species-specific ornithological surveys at a range of proposed windfarm and power line sites across Scotland. To complement his extensive ornithological survey experience, Dan has received appropriate training from NRP.
Prior to joining NRP, Dan gained experience conducting a wide range of surveys, including for the BTO and FWAG. This included species-specific surveys for breeding Nightjar, Woodcock, and waders; boat-based seabird censuses; and generic breeding bird surveys following a variety of methodologies. Dan has also carried out nest monitoring work for the BTO and is a former Chough Nest Protection Officer for the National Trust in Cornwall, responsible for preventing nest-site disturbance.
Dan graduated from the University of East Anglia with a first-class BSc with honours in Natural Sciences in 2024. As part of his degree, Dan received training in numerous ecological survey techniques and performed fieldwork at a game reserve in Eswatini. Dan's degree also included a project that modelled the potential impact of climate change on Marsh Tit and Willow Tit in the UK.
Dan is frequently out in all weathers and has a lifelong passion for both birds and wild landscapes, with a particular interest in migration and evolution. Dan also enjoys science communication. He has worked alongside many age groups, from primary school pupils as an educational ranger to leading guided walks.
